Waffles and Ice Cream

It has been raining here for three straight days. On Friday we embraced the rainy weather and caught up on our sleep. Yesterday we headed to the indoor pool at our local YMCA to burn off some energy. Today however, the relentless pouring rain finally got to us and our spirits were low. After reading and doing puzzles all day we needed a pick-me-up and what better way then an overdose of chocolate in the form of waffles and ice cream? Yeah, we know that food doesn’t solve problems but it can definitely be a great distraction especially when the whole family is involved in the cooking process.

So, the Fives assembled in the kitchen where we poured over two of our favorite vegan cookbooks. The Global Vegan Waffle Cookbook and Lick It! Creamy Dreamy Vegan Ice Creams. Our plan of action included making chocolate waffles to top with fudge ripple ice cream. We pulled out our wonderful Black and Decker Waffle Maker and our Donvier hand crank ice cream maker (both of which we sorely missed this summer). In a few short hours we were sitting around the kitchen table enjoying a splendid feast just as the rain stopped and the sky started to clear. A sure sign of the amazing power of waffles and ice cream!

  1. Rainy here today, too! Waffles and ice cream sound like a perfect plan. An ice cream maker is on my wish list. It looks as though your Donvier makes a perfect scoop!

    • Donvier is definitely the best that we have tried. We had a Cuisinart ice cream maker but it never worked well. With the Donvier we have success every time and it doesn’t use any electricity just pure muscle power.
