Unexpected Sights at L’Anse aux Meadows

One of the reasons we chose to rent an apartment in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, was due to its proximity to L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, the only authenticated Viking settlement in North America. After several days of fog and rain we woke up on Thursday to blue sky and sunshine, the perfect day for a quick ride north to check out this fascinating historic site. We were prepared to be amazed by the Viking artifacts and the recreated Viking settlement (a post for another day), but we were simply blown away by the beauty of the L’Anse aux Meadows and the surrounding area. From watching a mother and baby moose graze to a picnic along the beach we enjoyed every moment of scenery in this gorgeous spot.
