It’s been almost a year since we started Park Hopping and visiting national parks in the United States and Canada. Some places have been magical for us, and others, not so much. With Nana Five visiting, we decided to give the Grand Canyon another try and see if the North Rim would prove to be a hit this time around. Our visit coincided with opening day at the North Rim, which unlike the South Rim does close down for the winter.
The North Rim is the perfect option for anyone who (like us) prefers to avoid the crowds. While this part of the Grand Canyon still has its share of visitors, it is nothing compared to the bedlam of the South Rim. We could take our day at a more leisurely pace, visiting the magnificent Grand Canyon Lodge, exploring some hiking trails, and of course, soaking up the scenery. While some places lose their luster the second time around, for us the Grand Canyon was just the opposite.
