What is this Stuff?

The Younger Fives off to the market in their Oakiwear rain suits.

We spent the last 6 months living in a desert environment. Pretty much every single one of those days resulted in blue skies and sun. I guess we became pretty spoiled because it didn’t really register that the climate in Southern Mexico might involve rain. On our very first week in San Cristobal de las Casas the rain began to fall. At first it was refreshing and something to rediscover.

Puddles – a three-year-old’s paradise

Then the rain became a frequent occurrence and the sun stopped making an appearance. Finally tropical storm Boris arrived and we started thinking about life rafts and escape routes. We are now pretty sick of the rain but feeling a little less guilty for the gorgeous weather that we enjoyed this past winter. I think that maybe we can now safely show up for family reunions back in New England without fear of retaliation and a direct hit from snowballs saved away in the freezer just for us 🙂

The field we used to play ball on is now a pond!
